Restore your scratched ipod nano with brasso

Published by GadgetSpy September 28th, 2005 in Gadgets, Portable Audio, Audio, iPod.

ipod nano brasso

So Apple have been in the news recently for their iPod nano not being up to scratch, but the nano can apparently be restored using a four dollar can of brasso.

I imagine most people will take theirs back but if you are too lazy or want to keep your nano in perfect condition long term get down to your local supermarket and pickup a can of brasso

Todd goes on to summarise: “I should emphasize again that I was quite happy with my nano and its condition, even with the slight scratches. I don’t think the nano has a problem with being excessively prone to scratching. That said, it was completely amazing that I could remove every scratch with just a little work with Brasso. If you wish you had put your nano in a case before you used it, you now have an inexpensive way to get a 2nd chance.”

Actually, the scratching of the nano during normal use isn’t considered a flaw and you cannot return the nano for that. The only return available is for screen cracking, which only affected a small batch of nanos. In the Macworld article Apple says that the nano is made from the same material as the 4G iPod and doesn’t have any particular scratching issue.

    Thanks for the link!

Oh y god… who are u trying to cheat here? thousands and thousands of ppl around the way are having the problem and u now try to use that excuse?

Apple pls be more responsible for those millions of ipod fans around the world. They supported u from generation 1 to 4 to shuffle to ipod nano and this is how u going to repay them? From a little apple to an apple pie on the computer market. This is wat u going to show for it?

If the product is like that, at least… at least let us know before to go ahead with the purchase….. my heart is bleed and I can see blood running in every part of the way right now….

    Todd,

It’s interesting to read your ideas. It may interest you to know that I’ve been polishing scratches out of my watch faces with Brasso since the late fifties. It’s good stuff!

    Regards

For those that dont feel handy enough or brave enough to do the job themselves, www.colorenvy.com can restore the front panel of your ipod for only $20.00. They will buff out the scratchs and apply a clearcoat to make your ipod look better than new.

can you use brasso on the front of the nano?

Brasso is a VERY BAD idea. I tried in on both an Ipod Photo and two PSPs. The problem is, Brasso contains petroleum distiliates, which not only make your gadgets smell real bad after you’ve applied and then cleaned them (and from what I can tell there is no way to get rid of this smell- they are permanently tainted), but you end up touching these petro chemicals and inhaling them every time you handle your gadget. They make your hands tingle or burn (for lack of a better word) the same way getting gas on your hands does.. it gets under your skin and no amount of washing with remove this feeling. I have tried cleaning the gadgets with liquid soap, and glass cleaner, to no avail… they continue to smell. Considering the high petroleum content of this chemical, I would not even recommend it for polishing metal, such as sinks or faucets, or anything that humans come into contact with.
