Talking Dogs! Whatever Next…

Published by Budda September 30th, 2005 in Gadgets, Communication, Home, Robotics.

AIBO 3

Sony’s favourite pooch, AIBO, gets his 2005 makeover - looks like he’s been at the Champagne. Bringing some new features to the old dog.

Not content with making a robotic pet which acts like a dog, Sony have decided to add their own twist on what a dog can and cannot do.

Thanks to “Mind 3″ technology, the 2005 AIBO pooch is able to communicate with spoken words!

He’s also got himself on-line now, allowing little AIBO to keep his own photo blog based on photos he takes during his day at play around the house.

Other new touches include the ability go online to receive emails using a local wireless connection - you can check how he’s doing while you’re away - and collect the latest headlines from AIBO Net News, then read them out to you.

AIBO’s musical skills have had a brush up too. As well as being able to play music from MP3 lists or Internet radio and dance along, you can now show a CD cover to AIBO and he will play programmed tracks from it!

The final big improvement is that AIBO now has a memory. It’s only slightly better than a goldfish at 5 minutes long, but within that time he can automatically find his favourite places and charging station without the need for sensors.

If you’ve got some spare cash, you’ll be able to adopt your very own Champagne coloured AIBO from October 2005, for Ā£1400.

If you’re already an owner of AIBO, don’t worry, there’s news that an upgrade kit is in the works for ERS-7 owners.

See more about AIBO on his European website.
