Good time to sell your iPod mini?
Published by GadgetSpy December 13th, 2005 in Gadgets, Portable Audio, Audio, iPod.It could be the perfect time to sell your iPod mini, the Apple mp3 player was discontinued back in September this year and replaced by the nano but this has actually caused the price of the mini to go up.
An article at C|net focuses in on one buyer who paid $275 on ebay for an Apple iPod mini in pink when the original price tag was only $199. The reason for this was “She had her heart set on an iPod Mini mainly because they are discontinued, so not many people would have them” which doesn’t make much sense as surely loads of people still have the mini and haven’t bought the nano yet?
With the nano currently only coming in black or white the older colours may be more appealing, in a recent article at the start of this month we talked about how there was a shortage of pink gadgets with the Pink Nintendo DS and Motorola RAZR being extremely popular in the run up to Christmas.
Various sites appear to have hiked up their prices to capitalise on the apparent demand and a spokesman for eBay Dean Jutilla said:
“In the past three months, about 36,000 Minis have sold on eBay, with the pace of sales picking up in the past couple of weeks…The Mini has been averaging 15 to 16 bids per auction. That shows a strong demand…..And the average price per Mini–whether 4GB or 6GB–has gone up from $173 to $229, he added.”
With the nano being smaller, lighter, having more storage,a colour screen and better battery life it does seems the ideal choice except for maybe the screen being a little on the flimsy side.
It sounds like an ideal time to flog your iPod mini on eBay and buy a nano with the proceeds

The price hike wasn’t just a figment of my imagination then! My daughter had her heart set on a green ipod mini for Christmas, but all searches proved either fruitless or totally out of my price range. She’ll have to be happy with the ipod nano I’ve got her instead. We can always get a nice green coat for it!!
Not to mention this article being another reason.
