Free Safety Phone for your child

Published by Budda January 23rd, 2006 in Gadgets, Communication, Mobile Phones.

Teddy Phone
The safety of your kids seems to be big these days, with statistics of one in four children under 10 in the UK have a mobile phone! Not like it used to be in my day. Anyway, you can get a free ‘Teddy Fone’ for your child. It’s a mobile phone designed to be very secure for the child.

They seem to expect you to keep it for two years (a 24 month contract), however you don’t have to pay for the phone or a monthly rate. You only pay for phone calls made at ’standard rate’.

Teddyfone can send and receive calls like a normal mobile phone. It is restricted to calling 4 numbers, and can automatically text 3 numbers in an emergency. Each number can be programmed on the phone by simply sending a text message.

Without a screen on the phone the child obviously can’t receive text messages. Check out the interactive image of the phone hardware.

The Teddy Phone features:

* 10 times less emissions than a conventional mobile phone
* doesn’t look like a mobile phone, so unlikely to attract unwanted attention
* limited functionality - no texting or downloading (so no premium rate subscriptions to the crazy frog!!)
* only allows calls to four preprogrammed numbers
* automated SOS alert feature (sends messages to 4 phones and one of them can listen to what happens at the child’s end)
* child tracking facility (free subscription, 50p per location)

Phone calls are charged at “standard rate” — however the site doesn’t specify exactly what standard rate they are working along. Make sure you read over the terms & conditions before taking the plunge too.

You can order your free kids phone from teddyfone.com

Thanks for the article. I really like these “kid” phones. Especially like the fact that it can only call the four preprogrammed numbers. This makes it less complicated for younger kids and it helps keep your cost down for the older ones that may tend to make more calls.

It is a good thing this device is free since I suspect it would not take too long for the phone to go missing.
