SwiMP3 Waterproof MP3 Player
Published by GadgetSpy February 9th, 2006 in Gadgets, Portable Audio, Audio. The SwiMP3 underwater MP3 player allows you to listen to hours of your own music during your swim workout via bone conduction.
The SwiMP3’s innovative sound transfer technology offers exception underwater sound quality. Standard players rely on the transmission of sound through air or water causing the swimmer to perceive only muffled noise. The SwiMP3 uses bone conduction - the direct transfer of sound vibrations from the cheek bone to the inner ear - to provide the swimmer with exceptional sound clarity. The SwiMP3 is fully waterproof and can be used with all the competitive swim strokes.
How Does It Work?
The SwiMP3 relies on bone conduction of sound. When the device is placed on any bones of the skull (i.e. the cheek bones or the mastoid tip) it leads to vibration of the fluid in the inner ear. Thus swimmers can enjoy clarity of sound with the SwiMP3 device that was never before possible. Bone conduction hearing is a safe, well-established hearing mechanism in humans that the SwiMP3 player leverages to enhance aquatic activity.
MP3 features include volume control, shuffle, bass boost, song next/previous, 4-hr. rechargeable battery, and 128 Mb memory for a 30+ song capacity. Comes with Lane 4 goggles, carrying case, USB cable, Musicmatch software, and manual.

Wow interesting item. Not sure how many competitive swimmers are actually gonna want to listen to music while training though.
This is a joyful almost spiritual gadget that I now use all the time.It really enhances my swimming and keeps me motivated to go swimming again & again. The cheapest place I could find to purchase a SwiMP3 in the UK is www.swimmer.co.uk
