Nabaztag - Lottery results, gaim, APIs and more

Published by GadgetSpy March 31st, 2006 in Gadgets, Wireless, Robotics.

Nabaztag

The Nabaztag is due to hit the UK shortly, there are now various hacks and scripts doing the rounds including ones to announce your matching lottery numbers and a gaim plugin.

The Nabaztag (means “rabbit” in Armenian) is a strange device for anybody who can’t bare to be away from their computer. The rabbit uses a built in WiFi transmitter to hook up to your home network in order retrieve data, and represent it in an unusual way.

Runs at 9:00pm on saturday nights, scrapes lottery results from the webpage and sends “Lottery results: you matched X numbers” to your nabaztag

Free Nabaztag services
Some free services are listed at the official site, interesting ones include:

Stock Market - Your Nabaztag keeps an eye on market indices for you. It provides financial information with light signals, or speak them whenever you choose.

Wakeup MP3 - Just select your favourite MP3 and Nabaztag will sing it to wake you up. You can ask Nabaztag to send you to bed, too!

Nabaztag API

Nabaztag API Interface

After taking it apart i looked into the API offered by violet. I have to say that their offering puts ambient devices to shame. It is so easy and not at all lame.

So this is where we are. I needed a way to play with their API without trying to build that damn link everytime. So i created this little page. It allows you to build and execute api links to your own rabbit.

Hat tip to Make: Blog

Please let us know via the comments if you know of any other useful resources, with the development of additional scripts the wifi bunny could prove to be just as popular with the brits after it’s full UK release.

The Nabaztag is available for pre-order at firebox for £79.95

Looking forward to the UK release

I think they have a cheek charging for service which reads out RSS feeds, from what I gather these premium services can cost an extra £2.50 per month so lets hope the great development being done by the community continues

Yeah, they will be charging additional costs for such services as RSS feeds. However, I don’t believe it will be alot at all…
