Samsung YP-Z5 - another one bites the dust
By budda on Tuesday, April 18th, 2006 comments
Everyone is hunting for the iPod killer, and Samsung have introduced their latest challenge in the shape of the YP-Z5. Not quite as slim as the iPod Nano - but getting there.
The new flash player has the markings of iPod Killer written all over it. Again. But could it be for real this time? Samsung, the chief flash supplier for Apple's iPod nano can deliver the same 4GB of flash memory for the same $249. Paul Mercer, the man behind the iPod's oh-so-praised interface is the one who designed the interface for the YP-Z5. Fierce competition indeed.
Scott Clark didn't leave much to say about Samsungs latest digital audio offering:
While the YP-Z5 has the right dimensions, look, storage capacity and price, the sheer number of missing features gives a strong sense of buyer's remorse. No data storage, no games, no contact/calendar synchronization, no FM or microphone recording, and no custom EQs set the YP-Z5 way behind other MP3 players in its class. Add in one of the worst control systems I've ever dealt with and I'd advise you to stay far away from this one.

The YP-Z5 is the a very well designed player.
Sure, it doesnt have all the goodies, but it DOES have USB Data storage, playlists..
People are complaining about it not having games.. who wants games? its a "Music Player", not a "Game Player". You cant exactly play games on that pad anyway.
The device can be used for USB storage, and in Vista, you can drag-drop stuff easily.
The battery life rocks..
I love it, and hate iPods!
