The Irish claim to have unlimited free energy
By budda on Saturday, August 19th, 2006 comments
Steorn, an Irish technology development company, claims to have discovered a technology based on the interaction of magnetic fields that allows the production of clean, free and constant energy. In theory, this should be impossible as it breaks the first law of thermodynamics.
Steorn is making three claims for its technology:
1. The technology has a coefficient of performance greater than 100%.
2. The operation of the technology (i.e. the creation of energy) is not derived from the degradation of its component parts.
3. There is no identifiable environmental source of the energy (as might be witnessed by a cooling of ambient air temperature).
Steorn has placed an advertisement in The Economist this week to attract the attention of the worldâs leading scientists working in the field of experimental physics. From all the scientists who accept Steornâs challenge, twelve will be invited to take part in a rigorous testing exercise to prove that Steornâs technology creates free energy. The results will be published worldwide.

Let's skip this nonsense and pursue something that will actually work: fusion.

Years ago I was hired by a crackpot inventor in Mississippi to prove that he had a machine which produced energy. I never collected on that assignment - you can guess the reason why.
There is a very simple reason why there is no energy gain from the manipulation of matter or energy - if there was, the universe would have discovered it long ago and a gigantic explosion would have resulted or the universe would have melted down very quickly.
I thank God that no such gain is possible - it allows me to sleep soundly ay night. I wouldn't work on their invention if they paid me to do so.
These are very cynical and possibly sinister people who are out to huckster up a fortune the easy way - by lying to and cheating their fellow man.
IT'S A SCAM of course. For what ever reason, this web page is making up a lie that they can make free energy, and about 1/3rd of people fall for it.

Looks like a HALO 3 viral add campaign to me. Just like the Halo 2 add campaign, it starts as a completely non-gaming promotion, then reveals itself in time to be HALO3.
Remember "I love Bees" from Halo 2? Check out the images on Steorm's web sites. A homeycomb? A bunch of spiral images similar to the spiraling clouds in the Halo 3 trailer.
Why are you all so critical? They have invited scientists to prove it. Stop being idiots and at least wait for the results before making assumptions.
What seems more likely:
Fusion or Perpetual Motion
-------------------------------
I'd say the current research on magnetic fields to contain the plasma used in fusion is a far better investment than this cr*p marketing gimmick.
Yes non-conforming thought is required for breakthroughs, but if this is true, superman would have to exist as well.
We live in reality, although people have theories against that too.
There are some aspects of physics that are never taught and therefore never considered. If you add the magnetic field (B) from a bar magnet to one from a current carrying coil wound on that bar (deltaB) the field everywhere is a the sum of two terms, B deltaB. Energy density goes with the square of the field, so expanding the square of the sum we get B^2 2BdeltaB deltaB^2. B^2 is the original energy from the magnet. deltaB^2 is the energy from the coil. 2BdeltaB is excess energy gained from where? You won't find the answer to that question in your EM books. That is not a trivial amount of energy, being many times more that the energy you put in. It can be shown that it comes from the quantum domain, from the electron spins inside the bar magnet. For the expenditure of a small amount of energy into the coil we can conjure up a much larger amount of energy in space. It is ignored because over a full cycle it is generally not available to us. Can an electro-magnetic theory which ignores magnetic energy shuttling about within our machines be considered complete? Is it not possible that someone will eventually discover how to tap into that ignored energy flow?
Let them have their day. After all I am young enough to remember that if God made man to fly, he would have given them wings. You are likely right, though. All one would have to do is walk into the offices of Honda and demonstrate the technology.
