KA-56: The Portable Helicopter
Published by Mariella Moon December 19th, 2007 in Gadgets, Transportation.Honestly, cars can be so boring at times. It’s the same old, same old, no matter what brand and model the car is. Wouldn’t life be so much better if we could all ride our own helicopters to work or school and back?
Back in 1971, the Russian military commissioned helicopter designer, Kamov Design Bureau, to create a portable lightweight helicopter. The result: KA-56. This helicopter could fit inside a cylinder, with the rotor blades being the only detachable parts as the remainder of the body could be folded.
Sadly, because they weren’t able to find the right rotary piston engine, the KA-56 was never able to fly. Still, it would be cool if the idea gets picked up again in the future. Just imagine yourself landing in front of the convenience store on a helicopter. Priceless.

its not that cool for people who are scared of heights.. however given the choice between that and sitting in traffic i know which i’d choose!
Yeah, I reckon it’s not. Just imagine zooming around a hundred feet above the ground with your feet dangling in mid-air! I won’t mind, though.
