Solve Your Cable Problems with a JerkStopper

Published by Budda February 7th, 2008 in Gadgets, Laptops, Computing, Reviews.

JerkStopper

Laptop users have probably experienced the annoyance of knocking the power cable out once in a while. Who would have thought a small, simple piece of plastic could solve the problem?

Laptops have a problem, one which Apple has solved wuth the use of their “MagSafe” magnetic AC power connector. However all other laptops suffer from the problem of the AC power cord getting tripped over. The worst case is that the power socket on the laptop motherboard gets damaged, followed by an expensive repair job. The other problem, especially with MacBooks, is the power connector location on the left side. Whilst the laptop is on your lap the power cord is easy to knock out by accident - stopping any battery charging.

The Solution

The JerkStopper arrives in a small silver aluminum box - the size of some posh mints. Everybody gets a set of 3 plastic “thingys”, with the hope that one of them will fit your individual laptop setup.

JerkStopper Adapters

So what is it?

A solid plastic adapter which you push in to one of your laptop ports - RJ45 (Network), RJ11 (Modem) and USB. The JerkStopper comes in two parts, a connector and a clip.

You place the clip over the AC power cable and push it on to the connector thats inserted in to a port near to the AC power inlet. The two plastic parts grip together very well to hold the cable in place from any sudden cable jerks.

The RJ45 or RJ11 connectors are preferred, as they have the click-in connection with the laptop due to the nature of the connector.

The JerkStopper is a simple but incredibly well built solution - it feels solid and does the job. What else can you say about a small bit of black plastic? Worth £5!
